Terms of service
Last updated November 2, 2026
These terms cover your use of Duo: the Mac app, Sidecar for iPhone, your Duo account and Duo’s cloud service. By using Duo you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Duo.
Duo is in beta
Duo is free while it is in beta. It is still being built, so features may change, break or go away, and the cloud service may be slow or unavailable at times. We may end the beta or start charging for some features later; if we do, we will tell you before anything you use stops being free.
Your account
- Cloud features need a Duo account. You can sign in with an emailed code, Google or Apple.
- Use an email address you control, and keep access to it and to your Mac secure. You are responsible for what happens with your account.
- An account is for one person.
Using Duo well
Please don’t use Duo to:
- break the law or anyone else’s rights, or to harm, harass or deceive people;
- get into accounts, devices or data you aren’t allowed to use;
- get around the cloud service’s usage limits, or use it for anything other than Duo;
- disrupt, overload or attack the service, or try to reach parts of it you aren’t meant to.
The cloud service has usage limits, such as a number of requests a minute and a day, so it stays available for everyone.
Duo acts on your Mac
Duo can use your apps for you when you ask: click, type, run commands and send messages. It asks before steps that delete things, send messages, spend money or can’t easily be undone, unless you turn that off in Settings, but you decide what it does and you are responsible for the actions you ask for or approve. Keep backups of anything important.
When Duo works in other apps and websites, their own terms still apply to you.
Answers can be wrong
Duo’s answers and suggestions come from models that can make mistakes. Check anything important, especially medical, legal, financial or safety matters, before you rely on it.
Your content
What you write, and what is on your screen, stays yours. You let us handle it only as needed to run Duo for you, as described in the privacy policy.
While “Share learned actions” is on (it is by default), you let us use the actions you share, without your values, to help Duo work better for other people. If you send us feedback, we may use it to improve Duo without owing you anything.
Duo itself
Duo, its name, design and software belong to us. You may use the app for yourself as these terms allow. Please don’t copy, resell or reverse engineer it, except where the law allows. The fonts in Duo are used under the SIL Open Font License.
Privacy
The privacy policy explains what Duo keeps on your Mac, what it sends to the cloud and when, and how to delete it.
Stopping
You can stop using Duo at any time, and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk.
No warranty
Duo is a free beta provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, as far as the law allows.
Limits on liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data or profits, from using Duo. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for Duo in the last 12 months, which during the free beta is nothing.
Changes
We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top, and for important changes we will let you know in the app or by email. Using Duo after a change means you accept the new terms.
